PROJECT ENVIRONMENT
Don Bosco Centre is located near the city center in Podgorica, the capital and largest city of Montenegro.

Podgorica is a city with around 190 000 citizens. Podgorica locally stands among two fertile plains (Bjelopavlicka and Zetska) and is surrounded by mountains. These two fertile valleys are cut through by no less than five rivers, including the Zeta, Sitnica, Ribnica and Cijevna which flow into the Moraca and into Lake Skadar. Lake Skadar, located between Podgorica and the sea, the region’s varied height above sea-level, the relief of the land, and other factors in the region’s geographical makeup, all have created the conditions for a sub-Mediterranean climate with mild winters and very hot summers. Podgorica is located 44 meters (145 feet) above sea-level and just a hundred or so kilometers (about sixty miles) from well-known seaside resorts and attractive winter sports centres.

The construction of the Sozina tunnel allows travelers to leave Podgorica and reach the Adriatic coast in just half an hour’s drive. Construction in Podgorica and surrounding areas is proceeding at such a pace that almost daily the foundations of new building are being laid. New cultural, scientific institutions, modern roads (especially bridges), business centres, promenades, schools, hospitals, monuments, hotels and restaurants and sports facilities are springing up almost overnight. It is justifiable to say that today’s Podgorica is the unquestionable administrative, cultural, financial, business, transport and service center of the country of Montenegro.

Podgorica is today a business center, a university center, a capital of Montenegrin and International culture, and a city of the young and the future.
Regarding our centre, it is located at the end of the city center and its main population is Montenegrin. In this part of the town also lives a large number of Albanian minority. The location of our centre which represents Salesian community is very good regarding to its traffic connection with the city core. The center can be reached by city bus in couple of minutes or in 15 minutes walking. It is only few minutes away from railway station by feet.

DESCRIPTION OF THE YOUTH CENTER
Don Bosko centre is an organization based in Podgorica, engaged in youth work. Main task of our organization is to offer educational and fun programmes to children and young adults, in order to give them possibility to spend free time doing something useful and creative. This is a non-formal way of education, where our visitors acquire skills and knowledge through different activities. Method of work is preventive, which means that we want to keep youngsters away from streets.

Our target group usually consists of children coming from socially vulnerable families, who live in the area of Konik, which is one of the poorest areas in Podgorica. Also, we have significant number of Roma population. However, our centre is not open only to these groups, but to everyone aged between 7 and 18 yrs, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation.

Through all these activities our visitors develop their talents and potentials, they improve existing and acquire new knowledge. They feel free to communicate on a specific subject, they share experiences, learn how to work in a team. Sports activities and games stimulate their physical growth. In the past we have organized different preventive and social programmes indicating the risks of using drugs or other vice.
