project description
Slovene Philanthropy is a humanitarian organization operating in public interest since 1992. Our programs are aiming at increasing the quality of life in the community and advocacy for the socially weak. Volunteer’s work will mainly be in intergenerational community center. His/her task will be to prepare workshops for different generations, depending on the knowledge and skills. We have 5 community’s centers around Slovenia, which are open every day from Monday to Friday and during this time there is always at least one employee in the center, so volunteer will never be alone in center. Each of our community center will have two volunteers. There are also other tasks volunteers will do: having workshops in other local organisation and also participating in local events and festivals that we are organizing during the year. This are brief details about the work of volunteers, however we would like to encourage volunteers to propose their ideas and take initiative to do new things.

Slovene Philanthropy main activity is the promotion of volunteering as we firmly believe that through volunteering we can all contribute to a better and more tolerant society, based on the respect of all people regardless of their personal or living circumstances.We offer training for volunteers, mentors and organizers of volunteering activities. The values we advocate are: respect for nature and fellow man, solidarity, tolerance, equality and equal opportunities for all. Our work is focused on informing, advocacy and networking. Our programs operate in areas where national institutions are not yet active or not active enough, but have room for great improvement through additional – voluntary – manpower.
accommodation, food and transport arrangements
For accommodation we are going to rent a private apartment with kitchen and bathroom, where volunteers will be able to prepare their own food. In each apartment will live 2 volunteers. During the work time transport will be organized by our coordinators and we will cover all the cost of transporting from the project. For food we will give them money to buy food for themselves, but they will also have the opportunity to cook and eat with other people in the community center. The coordinators will help them to arrange the transport in time that they are not working.
training during the project
Our national agency is organizing two trainings. First is arrival training which happens soon after volunteer arrive, the other one is mid-term training. We are also planning to prepare volunteers before they can start having workshops alone. They will participate in other activities and have the opportunities to learn from the coordinator and other employees and volunteers. They will have the opportunity to observe and learn how to prepare and lead one workshop. All the workshops and activities could be prepared in pair with other volunteers, so they can support each other.

We are looking for volunteers who like to work with people from different generations, who allready have some social skills or would like to learn them. If you have innovative ideas and can also work on your initiative, you are welcome.
