additional information
The Social Centre Rojc is a particular “city of civil society” and an alternative and urban cultural center. This 16739m2 large building dating from 1870, which originally served as the Austro-Hungarian naval school, today houses 110 associations under a common roof. Thousands of its residents and visitors pass daily trough its long and painted hallways.
Rojc Alliance is the network these associations which represents them and their interests. Through mutual cooperation and active work in the community, Rojc Alliance build a distinctive network based on collaboration and joint program.
Rojc corridors resemble a large art gallery, because almost 4000 square meters has been painted by numerous artists, as a part of the project Krojcberg. This “lost” space in the city center avoided the fate of other similar public spaces, which were converted into private spaces due to the commercial policies of public authorities. The Rojc associations renewed the premises assigned to them with their own funds. The premises are functional and adapted to the needs and preferences of their users and are used as production sites, for sports and recreation, as offices, for presentations, conferences and as clubs.
Each association in the Social Centre Rojc has its own premises, but also a common space, The Living Room which is managed by the Alliance of Rojc Associations . The 180 m2 common room is located on the ground floor in the renovated space of the former military cafeteria. It represents a multifunctional and freely available space in witch the social center’s organisations and individuals can hold programmes and activities. It also includes an internal and large external courtyard with basketball and soccer field, a skate ramp and large free parking area. Festivals, concerts, film screenings, sports and recreational trainings, dance rehearsals and joint programs such as “Actions for Rojc!” and a flea market are organised outdoors. In addition to managing the common area, Rojc Associations Alliance develops and implements joint programmes and projects, strengthens the capacities and represents the interests of its associations., maintains the Rojc website and Facebook, Twitter page, and publishes the newspaper Veznik Ljudi iz Rojca.
